Bernie Dignam
Originally from Finglas in Dublin, Bernie Dignam has been living in North West Connemara since 1997, where she teaches art and design to adults. She has been exhibiting work since 2002 in Ireland and USA and has been a member of The Atlantic Artists group since 2003. Her work can be found in private collections in Ireland, UK, France, Germany, Turkey, USA and Singapore. Currently she uses felting, tapestry weave, batik and print-making techniques to capture the elements of Connemara.
"My interest in textiles has led me to experiment with various constructive and decorative techniques. Various fibres in different forms can be combined to produce an infinite variety of colours, tones and textures. The use of absorbent and reflective materials in my work attempts to capture the brilliance which occurs so momentarily in the landscape. Wool, Silk, fabric and thread are perfect materials through which to convey this complex interaction."
Work can also be seen at the Mitchells Craft Shop, Kylemore Abbey, Co. Galway
